After careful consideration and discussion, I regret to inform you that the board has voted to cancel the February concert on 2/27/22 due to the surge in COVID related outbreaks. Other choral groups are making the same decision at this time in order to keep everyone safe. Current state guidelines recommend that only essential public gatherings be held and we all know that hospitalizations are on the rise.
We are, however, going to begin rehearsing for our spring concert earlier. Here is the plan.
1. Spring music pick-up will be at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 6:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. Barbara Keefer will have your music ready to hand out. Beginning this semester, you will pay for your music when you pick it up. Cost for the music is $20, Checks can be made out to Southern DE Chorale. You will not have to pay for any of the music from the SDC library.
2. All new members welcome. The dues for half the year is $60. Please bring your vaccination card on that night if you’re new. Members that did this in the fall do not need to do this again. All members need to be fully vaccinated with at least 2 vaccines.
3. We will begin ZOOM rehearsals either on 2/1/22 or 2/8/22 with the spring music. This will help us learn our parts a bit earlier and provide an opportunity for us to be together.
4. We are planning on making Tuesday, 2/15/22 our target date for getting back together in person at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, perhaps with masks for a bit. This is our goal but may need to be changed due to the numbers. We are hoping that the surge will decline by this time, but one can only hope. If we cannot get together in person by then, we will continue ZOOM for a bit.
5. Attendance on ZOOM will be flexible for those who had planned to travel for January/February.
We are all very sad to have to make these changes to our schedule but feel that it is necessary at this time for our safety. Thank you for your continued interest and support of the Southern DE Chorale. When this is over, I really think we need to have a BIG party!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Colin or myself. Stay safe and we’ll see you on 1/25/22 when you pick up your music.

SOUTHERN DELAWARE CHORALE
Dear Supporters and Sponsors
The Chorale is a group of local singers who provide a very high quality of chorale music for the cultural pleasure and edification of our audience and ourselves. Over the years we have performed numerous classical and high quality choral productions. Our plans for this year include performing a concert titled “Sing Joyfully” on December 5, a spiritual concert “A Choral Tapestry” on February 27, and a spring concert on May 1.
We are facing a challenging year regrouping our membership and recovering financially after being inactive for a year due to the Covid pandemic. Operating the chorus, at the high level that we strive for, requires a very significant financial budget. Our major expenses are an Artistic Director, Assistant Director/Accompanist, music, concert venue, rehearsal hall, advertising, music, programs, musicians and sometimes professional soloists, plus many miscellaneous expenses. Our sources of income are a grant from Delaware Division of the Arts, member’s dues, ticket sales, and solicitation of Ads and Donations.
We are very proud of our Lee Mitchell program, which is a foundation set up to bring in local high school singers to join us in the chorus and receive private voice lessons. Our regrouping efforts include continuing the program for this year. We occasionally also invite local high school choirs to perform at our concerts.
Again, this year, we appeal to you for the financial support that we need to allow the chorale to successfully fund its expenses. You have opportunity to designate your funds to either the general fund, or the Lee Mitchell fund. Please complete the attached order form to either place an Ad in our concert program or make a financial donation.
Your generous financial support is an essential part of the funding that permits us to provide this art form to the southern Delaware community. Any support that you can give us will be greatly appreciated
Also, by all means, please plan to attend our concerts.

COVID-19 Guidelines for Reassembling
The Southern Delaware Choral had to suspend all activities in March, 2020,
cancelling all spring rehearsals and spring concert due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since choral singing is a social activity that requires large groups to gather in small places to sing, it was dangerous to gather until a vaccine was produced. Now that many people have access and are able to get the COVID-19 vaccine, groups are now able to reconvene in a safer environment.
CDC data reveals that COVID-19 vaccines are effective and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. It also suggests that COVID-19 vaccines offer protection against most SARS-Cov-2 variants such as the Delta Variant.
The Delaware Division of the Arts is not maintaining guidance on vaccines for organizations reconvening. Therefore, based on current CDC data, the precedence of other groups, such as the Chester River Chorale, Epworth Choir, Delaware Winds, and Temple University Choirs, the Board of Directors and Artistic Staff have concluded that all members must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination when we reconvene on Tuesday, 8/31/21. You will not need to wear a mask. If you are not vaccinated due to a medical or religious reason, you must wear a mask and provide documentation of weekly negative COVID-19 test results. We will continue to focus on the science, current statistics and CDC guidelines and adjust our mandates accordingly.
We greatly care for all of you and want to keep us safe and healthy. If we all do our part, we will not only be protecting ourselves, but we will be protecting others and their families. Looking forward to reconvening on 8/31/21! Bring your proof of vaccination!
